Tribute Bands, True Love & Back-to-School Backpacks

July 31–August 2, 2026  •  McDonough • Stockbridge • Hampton • Locust Grove & Beyond
Last weekend of summer before school starts

HENRY COUNTY — Consider this your last free weekend before the routine kicks back in. School starts Monday, so if you've been meaning to squeeze in one more easy outing with the kids, this is it. Friday keeps things low-key with free blues downtown at the Tiny Tent series, or louder if you'd rather catch a tribute-band night in Griffin. Saturday's the one to build the day around: Henry County's back-to-school Parent Expo hands out backpacks and school supplies at Heritage Park, and by nightfall there's a genuine piece of country music history at Southern Roots Tavern — Trick Pony co-founder Keith Burns reimagining his 25-year-old hit “Pour Me” live, the same night VyStar Amphitheater goes full R&B for the Love Experience. Sunday's quiet by comparison, just a long trek out at Arabia Mountain if you want it. Get your last bit of summer in — here's everything worth knowing.

Events: July 31–August 2
Friday, July 31
Tiny Tent Concert Series: Red Sugar Blues
Friday Spotlight
Stockbridge Main Street
Every Friday since June 27, downtown Stockbridge has turned 130 MLK Sr. Heritage Trail into a pop-up concert lawn — no stage lights, no ticket line, just a tent, a band, and neighbors in folding chairs. The series runs through September 19, and this Friday closes out July's lineup with Red Sugar Blues, a high-energy blues act built for exactly this kind of low-key, come-as-you-are evening.

It's the kind of thing that's easy to drive past and easy to love once you've been — small enough to feel like your block's cookout, free enough that there's no reason not to go.

Communities In Schools of Georgia — McDonough
Before the first bell rings, Communities In Schools of Georgia in Henry County throws its annual resource fair and backpack giveaway at Heritage Park. Past years have drawn around 1,000 parents and kids through more than 50 tables — Henry County Schools’ own family services team, nonprofits, healthcare providers, youth programs, tutoring services, all under one roof so parents aren’t chasing down five different agencies the week before school starts.

Backpacks and school supplies go to families who need them, with proof of Henry County residency required for the giveaway. If you know a family that could use it, this is the one to circle.
